Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh have confirmed Sunderland, Cardiff and Plymouth as the show’s next three stops after playing at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre in September. The tour, whose full cast is yet to be announced, will open in Leicester in late February and will extend until 2021 – with further venues to be released in due time.
And do we dream again? For now we find… The Phantom of the Opera is travelling across the land. As the music of the night gets ready to soar over Ireland and the UK, producers Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh have confirmed three further venues for this extensive new tour, which are the Sunderland Empire (4th November – 5th December 2020), Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre (9th December 2020 – 16th January 2021) and the Plymouth Theatre Royal (20th January – 20th February 2021).
But there’s no need to wait for a whole year to be seduced by this story of haunting love and grief, since the show will get on the road next February – opening at Leicester’s Curve on the 22nd, where it will run until 21st March 2020. This first stop will be followed by Manchester’s Palace Theatre (26 March – 30 May 2020), Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre (10 June – 18 July 2020), the Birmingham Hippodrome (29 July – 12 September 2020) and the Edinburgh Festival Theatre (23 September – 31 October 2020).
Now in its 34th year, The Phantom of the Opera is one of the world’s most succesful musicals – seen by over 145 million people in 41 countries and translated into 17 languages. With a internationally acclaimed score that includes such hits as All I Ask of You, Masquerade and Angel of Music, it’s the only show in History to have turned over 3 decades on both sides of the Atlantic. Among its more than 70 major awards, the musical has earned seven Tony Awards and four Oliviers while it continues to play to sold out houses both on Broadway and in the West End.
