The upcoming national tour as wells as the Christmas production at the Sandler’s Wells have been cancelled and rescheduled due to the current uncertainty the theatre industry is going through. Bookers will be offered new performances, which are planned to be held by the end of next year and the beginning of the following.
It seems there’s a bit more of wait until magic returns to stage. Today the company New Adventures has announced that coreographer Matthew Bourne’s last project, which was scheduled to open this Christmas, has been officially delayed until the 2021-2022 season. Producers claim that the recent events and the inevitable knock-on effect are responsible for the cancellation, apart from the inestability the industry is currently facing – since social distancing rules make it impossible for a show like this to run.
“It is heartbreaking for everyone in the New Adventures family”, says Bourne. “We love our loyal audiences throughout the UK and we feel a great sense of sadness that we will not get to perform for you on our annual tour at this time. This year would have seen our 18th consecutive Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells with our sparkling new production of Nutcracker! I know that there was great anticipation to see this beloved show back after nine years but, alas, we must wait another year for a return trip to Sweetieland! In the meantime, we look forward to shortly announcing a series of adventurous plans, both on and off stage, for 2021 and we live for the day when the curtain rises again on a New Adventures show”.
Everyone who has purchased tickets for the 2020-2021 performances at Sandler’s Wells will be given access to equivalent dates for the next season. All patrons will soon receive an email in the last week of September – providing them with all the details regarding their new booking. The newly scheduled production will now run from December 7th 2021 – January 30th 2022.
