Producers have announced today that the show will be resume performances at the same venue where it started its West End run. Directed by Christopher Ashley and starring Jenna Boyd, James Doherty, Mary Doherty, Mark Dugdale and Alice Fearn (among others), the musical tells the remarkable story of 7,000 air passengers who were suddenly taken to a small town during the wake of the September 11th attacks.
Some stories are meant to be told. Some musicals are meant to be performed. And all icons are meant to return. During the past weeks, the season’s been opened for West End shows to start announcing their first performances ever – or sometimes, their comebacks after a short run interrupted by the pandemic. Now the time has come for those who had already taken London by storm and which just can’t be silenced no matter what. The worldwide musical phenomenon Come From Aways has been just confirmed to resume its run by summer, at the same venue where it had been wowing audiences for more than a year.
“It’s been too long since we were able to welcome people to ‘The Rock’ and we’ve really missed our audiences”, say producers John Brant and Joseph Smith. “The resilience and kindness of Newfoundlanders is known the world over and constantly provides inspiration to us all in these challenging times. Theatre is integral to the vibrancy of the UK’s creative sector and we look forward to being part of welcoming people back to London’s West End. It’s now more than ever that we want to tell our story and give audiences the chance to see us live again”.
Winner of many major international awards (including four Oliviers and one Tony), the show is based on the remarkable true events of the 7,000 passengers who were flown off to the small town Newfoundland during the wake of 9/11. “Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but as uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night and gratitude grew into enduring friendships”. Directed by Christopher Ashley and music, lyrics and book by David Hein and Irene Sankoff, the London cast includes Jenna Boyd, James Doherty, Mary Doherty, Mark Dugdale, Alice Fearn, Kate Graham, Alasdair Harvey, Jonathan Andrew Hume and Harry Morrison, among others.
Come From Away will start performances on July 22nd at the Phoenix Theatre. Tickets are available from today at 2 pm (UK time) on the following link.
