The production has confirmed its entire company, which will consist of a 30-member cast. Featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by David Zippel and book and original story by Emerald Fennel, the show is a reimagined version of the classic fairy tale, where every element of the story has been given a much drastic twist. The musical will start performances by the end of June, with its official opening in mid-July.
Call her Bad Cinderella… but the truth is that every theatre fan just can’t resist learning more about one of the most anticipated musicals of the season. After many months of hinting and teasing, we finally get to know who will be bringing to life Andrew Lloyd Webber’s next West End aventure – a comedic new version of the classic fairy tale, where every element you think you knew about the story will be turned upside down! Led by well-known director Laurence Connor (Miss Saigon, Les Misérables), the show will feature a 30-member company, who will be first seen by the audiences by the end of June.
Carrie Hope Fletcher stars in the title role, while Ivano Turco will play Prince Sebastian and Victoria Hamilton-Barritt will be seen as The Stepmother. The newly confirmed performers include Rebecca Trehearn, who will play The Queen, Georgina Castle and Laura Baldwin, as Cinderella’s stepsisters Marie and Adele, and Gloria Onitiri, who will play The Godmother. The rest of the cast is completed by Michael Afemaré, Lydia Bannister, Michelle Bishop, William Bozier, Lauren Byrne, Sophie Camble, Tobias Charles, Vinny Coyle, Nicole Deon, Jonathan David Dudley, Dominic Adam Griffin, Michael Hamway, James Lee Harris, Leah Harris, Kate Ivory Jordan, Kelsie-Rae Marshall, Georgina Onuorah (who will play the role of Cinderella at certain performances), Andy Rees, Alexandra Waite Roberts, Sam Robinson, Giovanni Spano, Lauren Stroud, Georgia Tapp and Matthieu Vineto.
Composed and produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the show features lyrics by acclaimed writer David Zippel (Disney’s Hercules and Mulan), while the book and originally story have been penned by by Academy Award winning Emerald Fennell (Best Original Screenplay Oscar at last Sunday’s ceremony). The coreography, on the other hand, has been designed by JoAnn M Hunter – who, along with Laurence Connor, had previously worked on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock, as well as the recent sold out production of Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at The London Palladium, which will be returning to the venue this summer.
Cinderella will officially open at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on the 14th of July, with previews starting on June 25th. Tickets are available on the following link.
