The show will open in the West End by the end of the year – the cast to be announced in due time. Directed by Alex Timbers, the production features a spectacular immersive set design and has been brought to the life after a 10-year preparation period. Based on the successful 2001 film, the stage version includes new songs and has been updated for today’s audience, althought keeping the soul of its predecessor.
The dream is far from ending. The passion, the romance, the Bohemian enchantment (and everything that comes with it…) are pretty much alive and about to be reborn! And that’s because the splendour of the Parisian belle époque is on its way to soar over the West End after betwiching the hearts of thousands of New York viewers. Moulin Rouge! is coming to London this season, in a new musical mash-up extravaganza adapted for today’s audiences, but keeping the soul of its film predecessor – a theatrical celebration of truth, beauty, freedom and, above all, love, set on a place where your wildest wishes may come true.
Produced by Bill Damaschke, Gerry Ryan OAM and Carmen Pavlovic, the show is directed by Alex Timbers, whose previous credits include Here Lies Love at the National Theatre, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (Tony Award®nomination) and Peter and the Starcatcher. “The last 12 months have proven uniquely challenging in engaging with performers as we look to cast the UK production”, says Timbers. “Nevertheless we have all been astounded by the perseverance and sheer talent of those we have seen, and I am excited to see the cast coming together. It feels great to finally be confirming our UK premiere dates. I am thrilled now that we can look forward to bringing Moulin Rouge! to life in London and to welcome our audiences”.

Featuring a lavish spectacular and immersive set design, the musical centers around aspiring writer Christian and cabaret dancer Satine, whose love story will be obstacled by the need for Satine to appease the Duke of Monroth – on whose fortune the future of the Moulin Rouge lies upon. This production is the result of a ten-year process, spanning 3 continents, encompassing 75 songs credited to 165 songwriters (administered by 31 publishers) and representing over 160 years of music, including recent hits released since the movie premiered 20 years ago. The cast for the UK version, on the other hand, will be announced in due time.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical will open on Friday November 12th at the Picadilly Circus, with performances running from Monday to Saturday at 7:30 pm and also Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2:30 pm. Tickets will be available soon, from £25, on the following link.
