The iconic 70s musical will be making a comeback in the West End for the first time in almost 30 years. Directed by Nikolai Foster, this version will feature entirely new coreography and designs. Featuring all of its memorable songs, the show will also include some numbers from the original run, which will be unfamiliar to current audiences.

Yes, you’ve guessed right – the most automatic, systematic, hydromatic musical is making a comeback to London for the first time in almost 3 decades. Next May, London’s Dominion Theatre will get equipped with overhead lifters, barrel quad, a fuel injection cut off and chrome plated rods to show off its grease litghning – as Jim Jacobs & Warren Casey’s unforgettable 70s show will be revived in a fully brand new version.
“This is the first new production of Grease in the West End for 29 years, so we are excited to be bringing this grittier version to the Dominion Theatre”, says lead producer Colin Ingram. “All the familiar songs from the film are included, plus some of the songs and script from the very first production which will be new to audiences. Directed by the brilliant Nikolai Foster and choreographed by the legendary Arlene Phillips, they have done an incredible job of reimagining one of the most popular musicals of all time, to make it feel fresh, entertaining and celebratory – something we all need right now”.
This production’s creative team also includes Colin Richmond as its designer, orchestrations and musical supervision by Sarah Travis, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and sound design by Tom Marshall and Richard Brooker. The cast, on the other hand, will be confirmed in due time. First performed on Broadway in 1972 (after its original Chicago run one year before), the show ran for 8 years, featuring by then little-known actors suchs as Peter Gallagher, Patrick Swayze and John Travolta, as well as Richard Gere understudying many roles before landing the main role in the 1973 London premiere.
Grease will start previews at the Dominion Theatre on May 3rd – with performaces running from Monday to Saturday at 7.30 pm and Thursday & Saturday matinees at 2.30 pm (with the exception of May 5th and June 5th). Tickets are already on sale and available on the following link.
