The production will begin performances next month in London’s West End, where it will play for a limited run. Written by Mike Bartlett and first played back in 2009, the show is a challenge on society’s labels and the definition of invidual likes and experiences.
Let’s all get excited, for C O C K is about to come. Sorry – I couldn’t help it. But seriously, how can we not be looking forward to a show featuring some of Britain’s best-known international talent? Mike Bartlett’s 2009 play is returning to London’s theatreland next month and the expectation is, to say the least, high (or long…). Produced by Elliott & Harper Productions, this will be a new take on the award-winning text, this time led by acclaimed West End and Broadway director Marianne Elliott.
“I feel so excited to be working on this beautifully crafted and hilarious play by Mike Bartlett. It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout”, says Barlett. “A truly theatrical piece in that it asks the audience to enter the imagination of the storytelling – as only live theatre can do. It’s also all about the acting so to have such a talented, highly experienced, stellar cast is an absolute dream!”. The cast, on its side, is completed by Phil Daniels and Jade Anouka.
First performed at the Royal Court Theatre in London, the play challenges society’s labels regarding sexuality – for there are those who know what they like and others that… well, let’s say they’re just in between. The plot centers around John, a self-identified gay man who has living with his partner for seven years. Everything seems stable, everything seems normal… until he finds himself physically attracted to another woman!
