Andrew Lloyd Webber’s internationally acclaimed musical has confirmed two new members for the main cast. Joining the 2021 performing team, Matt Blaker will step in as Raoul while Kelly Glypstis will play Carlotta. Featuring the essence of the brilliant original, directed by Harold Prince and coreographed by Gillian Lynne, the show includes new creative inputs and reworked sets and effects.
Seal our fate tonight. Let the audience in. Let the opera begin! Andrew Lloyd Webber’s worldwide phenomenon keeps lurking in the media 35 years after its original opening at London’s Her Majesty’s Theatre. And it’s precisely this production that’s making today’s headline. Producers have just made official the two new additions to the West End team, who will be performing in the roles of Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny and Carlotta Giudicelli, respectively.
Matt Blaker will be the one in charge of playing the charming hero. Returning to the show after previously being a member of the ensemble (as well as an understudy for this part) in the Brilliant Original, his other theatre credits include UK tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and also the international tours of Jersey Boys and Jesus Christ Superstar, apart from the TV credit Netflix’s The Crown. Giving life to the histrionical diva, on it side, will Kelly Glyptis’s task, whose operatic experience features Madeleine, Cosi fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro, and also musical theatre such as the North American tours of The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins and West Side Story.
Produced by Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Group Ltd, the main cast is completed by Killian Donnelly, who will continue as The Phantom alongside Lucy St. Louis as Christine Daaé. Joining them will be Matt Blaker as Raoul and Kelly Glyptis as Carlotta. Also continuing in the cast are Matt Harrop as Monsieur Firmin, Adam Linstead as Monsieur André, Greg Castiglioni as Ubaldo Piangi, Francesca Ellis as Madame Giry and Ellie Young as Meg Giry. At certain performances the role of Christine Daaé will be played by Holly-Anne Hull. Featuring lyrics by Charles Hart and additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, the renewed production includes direction by Harold Prince and coreography by Gillian Lynne, recreated and adapted by Seth Sklar-Heyn and Chrissie Cartwright, respectively.
