‘Wicked’ celebrates 16 years in the West End with new extra performances added

The show will be adding 10 new matinees taking place in the upcoming months, both this and next year, plus the release of 500 thousand tickets already on sale. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and based on the Gregory Maguire novel, the production is already the 9th longest running musical in London history, with a long list of over 100 accolades received all around the world.

Because happy is what happens when all your dreams come true. This may not be all of them, but Stephen Schwartz clearly achieved one his musical theatre dreams by writing one of the most successful shows in History. Still breaking records and setting new milestones, the London production of Wicked (the second longest one of this piece after the Broadway one) is in for a major whoop-de-do this week, as last Tuesday marked its 16th year as one of the crowns of the European theatre hub.

To festivate such a landmark, the show has announced a 34th booking extension, with 500,000 new tickets  now on public sale for all performances until Sunday 26 November 2023 and 10 extra gigs, which will take place on Thursday 27 October, Tuesday 20 December, Friday 23 December, Tuesday 27 December, Friday 30 December 2022, Thursday 16 February, Thursday 6 April, Thursday 3 August, Thursday 17 August, and Thursday 26 October 2023, all at 2:30pm. At the same time, the land of Oz is welcoming its new Wizard, who will be played by Mark Curry, beginning performances on 18 October 2022.

Based on the Gregory Maguire novel, Wicked tells the untold story of the Witches of Oz, exploring the unexpected friendship between Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda (The Good Witch of the North), whose paths would cross when young and determine their fate for the rest of their lives. Since it opening in London back in 27 September 2006, this production has celebrated a long list of feats, recently surpassing 11 million viewers and already the 9th longest running West End musical in history. Winner of over 100 international awards, some of the most prestigious ones include three Tony Awards, six Drama Desk Awards, two Olivier Awards, six Australian Helpmann Awards and a Grammy for its Platinum-selling Original Cast Recording.
