The show will open next year in a new version which marks Nicholas Hytner’s debut as a musical theatre director. With a company led by Daniel Mays as Nathan Detroit, this production will feature more hit songs apart from bringing audiences closer to this Broadway fable’s universe.
That bacardi flavor, it certainly makes a difference, doesn’t it? And so do new takes on classic material. Sometimes they’re great, some others they’re just f***ed up. And though it may be a bit too early to make up our minds regarding which this one is, there’s no doubt that this kind of production is, by all means, very exciting. Next year, one of the most legendary titles in musical theatre history returns to London in a completely reinvisioned version, bringing the thrills and chills closer than ever before.
Enter the immersive staging of Guys & Dolls, a reimagined adaptation of Frank Loesser (music and lyrics), Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows’s (book) timeless show, marking also Nicholas Hytner’s debut as a director in this field. Soon to be performed at The Bridge Theatre, the company will be led by Daniel Mays as Nathan Detroit, who will be joined by Andrew Richardson (Sky Masterson), Celinde Schoenmaker (Sarah Brown), Marisha Wallace (Miss Adelaide) and Cedric Neal (Nicely-Nicely Johnson). Also appearing are Cornelius Clarke (Lieutenant Brannigan), Cameron Johnson (Big Jule), Anthony O’Donnell (Arvide Abernathy), Mark Oxtoby (Benny Southstreet), Adam Pearce (Harry the Horse), Ryan Pidgen (Rusty Charlie) and Katy Secombe (General Cartwright), among many others.
“It has more hit songs, more laughs and more romance than any show ever written”, says the team. “The seating is wrapped around the action while the immersive tickets transport you to the streets of Manhattan and the bars of Havana in the unlikeliest of love stories. In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, you raved with us in the forest. In Julius Caesar, you ran wild with us as the mob. Now, join us on Broadway for the biggest party yet”. A musical fable of Broadway based on the story and characters of Damon Runyon, the cast of creatives is completed by Bunny Christie (set), apart from choreography by Arlene Phillips, costumes by Deborah Andrews and Bunny Christie, associate direction and choreography by James Cousins, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Paul Arditti, musical direction by Tom Brady, orchestrations by Charlie Rosen.
