Aimee Lou Wood and John McCrea to star in ‘Cabaret’ from next month

The show will welcome its new leads by the middle of February, while the current main cast will depart at the end of the month. Featuring some of the most iconic songs in the genre, this critically acclaimed and award winning production features an immersive environment to bring this classic piece to a level never seen before.

Don’t tell Mama, whatever you do… Well, this you may be allowed to. Because of the secrecy concerning what happens inside the Berlinesque walls of the Kit Kat Club, it’s no mystery that some of the most acclaimed actors in the UK are conquering its stage. As its third run of celebrities reaches its end, the house where life and girls are beautiful is getting ready to welcome its new hosts. Starting on 13 February, the iconic roles of Sawly Bowles and the Emcee will be played BAFTA winner Aimee Lou Wood and Olivier nominated actor Joe McCrea, respectively.

“I’ve wanted to be Sally Bowles since I was around 10 so this is really special”, says Wood. “I’m unbelievably excited and having the greatest time in rehearsals. The production is so wonderful and I feel honoured to be stepping into this beautiful team of people!”. On his side, McCrea has added: “I’m thrilled to be taking on the iconic role of the Emcee in this ground-breaking production of Cabaret.  It’s an absolute honour to be joining this amazing company of artists.”

One of the most successful musicals of all time, Cabaret features some of the biggest hit songs in this genre, including Wilkommen, Don’t Tell Mama, Maybe This Time and Money as well as the title number. Directed by Rebecca Frecknall, this new critically acclaimed production has set and costume design by Tom Scutt and choreography by Julia Cheng, while its unforgettable music is by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and its book by Joe Masteroff. The cast, on its hand, completed by Vivien Parry as ‘Fraulein Schneider’, Richard Katz as ‘Herr Schultz’, Danny Mahoney as ‘Ernst Ludwig’ and Michelle Bishop as ‘Fraulein Kost’. The cast is completed by Gabriela Benedetti, Charles Croysdill, Laura Delany, Sally Frith, Matthew Gent, Ying Ue Li, Ela Lisondra, Chris O’Mara, Grant Neal, Hicaro Nicolai, Adam Taylor, Toby Turpin, Patrick Wilden and Sophie Maria Wojna.

As for the current leads, the final performance for Callum Scott Howells as ‘The Emcee’ and Madeline Brewer as ‘Sally Bowles’ will be Saturday 28 January 2023. Sid Sagar’s final performance as ‘Cliff Bradshaw’ will be Saturday 11 February 2023. Between 30 January 2023 – 11 February 2023 the role of ‘The Emcee’ will be played by Matthew Gent and the role of ‘Sally Bowles’ will be played by Emily Benjamin. At certain performances the role of ‘Sally Bowles’ will be played by Sally Frith.
