Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical returns to the West End for a limited 16-week run starring Nicole Scherzinger. Based on the critically acclaimed Billy Wilder movie, the show tells the story of faded silent film actress Norma Desmond, and her struggle to face a world that’s put her into oblivion.
No one ever leaves a star. At least, not this one – definitely. Because we all will be flocking to the Savoy now that we know the old girl is back – the musical, we mean… Returning to the London scene next September, Sunset Boulevard will reunite with audiences (almost as if we’d never said goodbye) in a new production starring Nicole Scherzinger. Directed and produced by Jamie Lloyd (in association with the Ambasasdors Theatre Group), the show has announced its running dates today, apart from setting the opening day for its booking period.
“It is always such an honour working with the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber, and I have so much respect for the incomparable, innovative, cutting edge director, Jamie Lloyd”, says Scherzinger. “To be able to work with both of them on such an iconic musical feels very special. This is a pinnacle role in the theatre world, and I’m excited for me and Jamie to think outside the box and to explore and create something new; to breathe a whole new life into the character – and the musical itself.”
With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, the musical tells the story of faded silent film sensation Norma Desmond, now turned into a delusional aged woman living in a fabricated world of memories – unaware that the real world has actually forgotten about her. Originally performed in London back in 1991 at the Adelphi Theatre, the show was first interpreted by Patti LuPone and later by Glenn Close for the American production – who later reprised the role for both the London and Broadway revival.
Sunset Boulevard will play at London’s Savoy Theatre from 18 September 2023 – 6 January 2024. Tickets will be available for priority booking on Tuesday 13 June at 10am and general booking Wednesday 14 June at 10am on this link.
