The celebrity drag queen continues to conquer the stage with her new show currently touring across the UK. Guillermo Nazara shares his views on the production upon his attendance in the West End, to let us know if this goofy comedy piece was actually a royal pain.
Turn around, wide eyes… Oh, I remember the last time someone told me that. Surprisingly enough, I was also having a lot of fun while a herd of gay men were standing behind me. Angelic. Exactly the opposite to what you must expect in La Voix’s latest show – there’s nothing heavenly awaiting except, perhaps, her undisputed talent to bring the house down (and the moods up) from the very beginning. What can you do but let yourself be enthralled by this dazzling carnival of colour, fun and absolute talent? Or said just in other words, the b*tch’s got what it takes.
Christened (figure of speech) as The Red Ambition Tour, this explosive montage sets the standard high by probably exceeding its own expectations, but most definitely going beyond every viewers’. Perfectly paced and beautifully put together, this glitter ball of energy blazes out from the very start through a fiery mix of song, dance and a lot of laughter. And I do mean A LOT. Combining hilarious stand-up comedy with incredibly sharp, well-timed improv (watch out if you’re in the front row) and a few interesting gadgets (don’t overthink it), the show is a never-stopping carousel of mega-camp chills.

Featuring uproarious diva impersonations (never before have you seen the Tina Turner heel walk keep so much balance onstage), her infectious persona and delightful vocal renditions are strongly backed by its production values. Despite not being a remarkably opulent show, the sense of spectacularity is guaranteed throughout the whole performance, thanks to its thoroughly crafted numbers, impressive costumes and a more than wonderfully sounding band. In addition, the lighting design, carried out with refreshing originality and attention to detail, not only constitutes one of the most praiseworthy elements of the entire piece, but also one of the very best I’ve seen in the West End in a long time.
Funny, entertaining and, all in all, driven by a feel-good vibe, The Ambition Tour crowns this queen once again as one of the most intricate pieces in the genre. No matter how your day goes, it will be impossible to leave the venue without a smile. And most probably, you will be wowed by the care and commitment that’s been put into the montage – proving great love for what she does, and even greater for those who come see it. Powder your nose (whatever that means for you) and get the nail polish ready for tonight, girl – it’s time to be dragged to the theatre.
