‘Next To Normal’ to transfer to the West End next summer

The show will begin performances in June, running for a strictly limited period at the Wyndham’s Theatre. With music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, the piece explores the struggles of a middle-aged mother dealing with mental illness.

It’s alive! It’s alive! It is so alive!!! Frustrations ran high last summer, as the new critically acclaimed Donmar Warehouse montage of Kitt and Yorkey’s cult rock musical could not spare a single ticket. But we can finally find a light in the dark, and rest assured that this next season is gonna be good. Today, producers have confirmed that Next To Normal will be having a West End transfer by the middle of June – scheduled to play at the Wyndham’s Theatre for a strictly limited 14-week season.

“Some stories pierce the heart of the human condition: Tom and Brian’s astonishing musical does just that – facing our deepest vulnerabilities whilst celebrating our capacity to endure”, says director Michael Longhurst. “The outpouring of emotion from audiences at the Donmar was incredible: you could hear audible sobs before they surged to their feet every single night – like nothing I’ve experienced. Tickets were impossible to come by, so I am beyond thrilled that more people will now be able to experience the work of this extraordinary creative team.”

With music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, the show explores the journey of a middle-aged mother struggling with bipolar disorder. A recipient of 3 Tony Awards for its original Broadway production, as well as as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (one of the only 10 musicals in history to receive such honour), this new take on the piece features designs by Chloe Lamford; movement, choreography and additional direction by Ann Yee; lighting design by Lee Curran; sound design by Tony Gayle and video design by Tal Rosner, among others. The cast, on the other hand, will be confirmed in due course.

Next To Normal will play from 18 June to 21 September. Tickets go on priority sale on Monday 27 November (with the general sale on Friday 1 December), and will be available on the following link.
