New Andrew Lloyd Webber mash-up musical to open in London next autumn

The show will feature the composer’s most popular melodies, putting several motifs together to create new tunes. Set to open by the end of September, the piece will deal with a deformed evangelist freeing Argentina from an oppressive Peronist government run by space cats.

Somebody’s gonna cry in Argentina this time… A mystical tagline preludes one of West End’s strongest offers for this year’s late season. After 5 years in the making, producers have announced today that a new Andrew Lloyd Webber-authored musical will be seeing the light of day next September, featuring all of the songs and plots (including Cats) that made the British composer one of the most celebrated figures in the theatre world. But no good story is completed without a twist, and this time it will come from the show’s score itself.

Titled Phantom Superstar vs Catty Evita, the piece will combine all of Lloyd Webber’s most famous tunes into the same melodies – reusing some of his most popular motifs pasted altogether to create new, enticing themes. “We’ve taken a lot of care while combining Andrew’s amazing creations, all done under his direct supervision”, says the production’s Arranger and Orchestrator William Gool. “A.I. has proven to be one of our greatest allies in this highly complex but also incredibly rewarding process. We believe we’ve come up with something truly unique. When people listen to the show’s anthem, Everything’s Alright, So You Must Love My Memory, Prima Donna, I’m convinced something very strong will be stirred within them”.

With its cast to be announced in due course, the montage will deal with a deformed evangelist nurtured by Tammy Faye, but now on a trip around the globe to seek his fortune. When arrives to Buenos Aires, he will learn that the city has been taken by a group of anthropomorphic space cats with Peronist convictions. It will be Jesus Polter-Christ’s mission to release the country from Griza Eva’s furry clutches, and return to their now grey reality its original technicolor dreamcoat.

“We’ve put so much effort and dedication into this production, we’re positive everyone’s gonna be blown away”, claims Associate Producer Henry Skamar. “We’ve also brought the team behind the Scottish Willy Wonka immersive experience to give us a hand with the staging. It’s going to be massive! The sets are mesmerizing and the technology is literally out of this world. You’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s certainly unknown of!”.

As for the writer, this publication has tried to quote Andrew Lloyd Webber about the montage, but he would only reply with one look. “It’s been so important to us to have Andrew’s support all through the evolution of the work”, adds lyricist and book writer Penny Waiss. “Restructuring the words from Andrew’s amazing repertoire has not been an easy task, but we think we’ve made justice to his legacy. Blending Phantom and Evita, apart from his many other remarkable scores, has been extremely stimulating. We’re particularly proud of the mix we’ve made with Christine’s first aria and Dangerous Jade. I can’t wait to see the viewers’ reactions when they first hear the line: “Think of me, b*tch!””.

Phantom Superstar vs Catty Evita will play at London’s Joaksonju Theatre from 29th September. Tickets are available on the following link.
