The Royal Court announces full cast for upcoming futuristic play ‘More Life’

The venue will premiere this new piece directed by James Yeatman, produced in tandem with the Kandisnky Theatre Company. Written by Lauren Mooney, the story explores the facts of human existence through the story of a woman revived into a robotic body.

What does it mean to be human? Are we still people when we can no longer be in flesh and bone? So many existential questions are to be answered, or perhaps magnified, on the Royal Court’s stage next month, with the opening of More Life – a sci-fi gothic horror play exploring the trials and tribulations of a woman reborn into a body that isn’t hers, or anyone’s.

Produced in conjunction with the Kandinsky Theatre Company, this new piece by Lauren Mooney (text and dramaturgy) takes audiences forward to 2075. Fifty years after dying in a car accident, Bridget is revived thanks to the advancements of technology. She’s the same person: same memories, same consciousness, same mind – only that now her body is made of wires and metals. Is she really the same individual then?

Directed by James Yeatman, the company is formed by Marc Elliott (A Tupperware of Ashes, The Father and the Assassin), Alison Halstead (Princess Essex, The Cherry Orchard, Hamlet), Lewis Mackinnon (Kid a Kidder, Anna Karenina (& Pegasus)), Tim McMullan (Mnemonic, Drive Your Plough Over the Bones of the Dead), Danusia Samal (Bangers (& Cardboard Citizens), Busking It), Helen Schlesinger (The Stone, Wild East).

In addition, the creative team includes Shankho Chaudhuri (set design), with lighting design by Ryan Joseph Stafford. The composer is Zac Gvirtzman, with sound design by both Gvirtzman and Dan Balfour, while the costume supervisor is Isobel Pellow.
