Cast announced for the return of ‘A Jaffa Cake Musical’

Upon last year’s critically acclaimed run at the Edinburgh Fringe, the show is returning to this summer’s festival, with two previous additional performances to take place in Bath. Inspired by the real-life 1991 trial, the show is a crazy, feel-good parody following the company’s brand of family-friendly quality shows.

It’s so sweet of them to make a comeback, for this is a show you should get a taste of. It has sugar, spice, and everything nice – with some legal drama confectioned in between. Gigglemug’s family comedy musical lands on the British scene for the summer holidays, starting its run with a two-day performance in Bath, followed by some icing on the cake: its return to the Edinburgh Fringe, where it received over thirty 4 & 5-star reviews – not ours though; we didn’t get to see it, and we’re not cross about it…

Inspired by one of the craziest and funniest trials in history, where the true identity of the Jaffa Cakes was brought to the stand, this “seriously silly” musical is penned by Sam Cochrane, whose previous writing credits include Scouts! The Musical, and features musical direction and arrangements by Faking Bad’s Rob Gathercole and direction by Ali James (Showstopper!, The Improvised Musical, The London 50 Hour Improvathon).

Baking their way to the stage, with a generous slice of nut-frosted humour, the cast will consist of Sam Cochrane (Kevin), Sabrina Messer (Katherine), and Alex Prescot (Judge), Katie Pritchard (Tax Man), and Harry Miller (Jake). Joining the troupe are Toby De Salis from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (Ensemble/Percussionist), as well as Kitchingham (Ensemble/Bassist) and Alexander Jude, who will be stepping in for the Bath previews.

Specialized in family-friendly musical comedies, Gigglemug’s debut came with Timpson: The Musical, which was sponsored by the high-street shop and went on to win The Stage Edinburgh Award and be listed on The Guardian’s pick of the Fringe. The company’s latest endeavours are RuneSical, based on the BAFTA-winning online game RuneScape, and Scouts! The Musical – which was nominated for the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off-West End Production and will be touring in Birmingham, Manchester, London, and Bath this June.
