As the world premiere approaches, the production has made public one of the new songs especially conceived for the show, written by Emmy and Grammy Award winner Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award Winner Glenn Ballard, which can be watched in this post. Also, we get to meet the actors who will play the show’s main supporting roles, including Martin McFly’s own parents.
The journey hasn’t even begun, but the excitement is very much alive! While the brand new production of Back To The Future starts getting ready towards its world premiere in Manchester, we finally get the chance to meet some of the people who will make the 30-year adventure rise onstage every night. But for those more difficult to content, we have a special bonus treat – as the creative team has just released one of the new songs especially conceived for the show (if you’re still not satisfied, we kindly suggest you go seek therapy). For the very first time, we have the opportunity to listen to Gotta Start Somewhere, written by Emmy and Grammy Award winner Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award winner Glenn Ballard, and performed by one of the production’s original supporting cast members.
The new cast announcement includes Cedric Neal as Goldie Wilson. Recently known for being one of 2019 The Voice UK’s semi-finalists, Neal made his West End debut as Berry Gordy in the original London cast of Motown The Muiscal. His other London credits are the role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the critically acclaimed concert staging of Martin Smith’s musical King, as well as Rhythm of Life (St. James’s Theatre) and Sporting Life (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre). He has also taken part in several Broadway productions such as After Midnight and the Tony Award-winning revival of Porgy and Bess. He can currently be seen in The View Upstairs at the Soho Theatre – in the role of Willie.
The supporting cast will also feature Hugh Coles in the role of George McFly (Martin’s father). Upon his graduation at LAMDA in 2017, Coles played one of the lead roles in last year’s British summer film The Festival. Other credits include the BBC series Defending the Guilty, playing the young barrister Liam next to Will Sharp and Katherine Parkinson, as well as Sky Arts’s Urban Myths: The Mysterious Disappearance of Agatha Christie and ITV’s Doc Martin. His onstage beloved will be Rossana Hyland, in the role of her soon-to-be wife, Lorraine. Hyland has taken part in several West End productions such as School of Rock, Urinetown, Shrek, the Musical or Carousel.
Back to the Future will play at the Manchester Opera House from February 20th to March 17th before transferring to the West End – London’s venue still to be confirmed. Tickets, available from £19.55, can be purchased at the box office and at the following link.
