The show played its last performance last week, almost celebrating 3 years since its arrival to the West End. Achieving several milestones during its stay, the musical starred Sam Tutty in his 2022 Olivier Award winning portrayal of the lead role.
Have you ever felt like nobody was there? Have you ever felt forgotten in the middle of nowhere? Have you ever felt like you could disappear? Like you could fall, and no one would hear? Certainly, those are things Dear Evan Hansen knows quite well about, but only because that’s the compelling theming through which this musical has inspired and fascinated thousands of viewers over the past years. Last week, this touching story about teenage suicide and support on dealing with mental illnesses played its last chords in the West End. A moment surely as moving as its plot, today producers have launched the pictures of the company’s last goodbye – immortalizing once again a piece that, despite its closure, will continue to live on through the memories it’s built in audience’s hearts.
Taking place at the Nöel Coward Theatre on 22 October 2022, the cast comprised Sam Tutty in the lead role of Evan Hansen, Lucy Anderson (Zoe Murphy), Doug Colling (Connor Murphy), Iona Fraser (Alana Beck), Marcus Harman (who plays Evan Hansen at certain performances), Jack Loxton (Jared Kleinman, in his Olivier-nominated performance), Rebecca McKinnis (Heidi Hansen), Lauren Ward (Cynthia Murphy, in her Olivier-nominated performance) and Rupert Young (Larry Murphy). Completing the Company are Tricia Adele-Turner, Haydn Cox, Kristen Gaetz, Ellis Kirk, Hannah Lindsey, Samantha Mbolekwa, Mark Peachey, Hannah Qureshi, James Winter and Mitchell Zhangazha.
Since its arrival to London on 29 October 2019, the show has achieved several milestones, including the highest grossing individual performance and the highest grossing weekly box office in the venue’s history. During its stay, Dear Evan Hansen was honoured with three Olivier Awards for Best New Musical, Best Original Score or New Orchestrations (Music and Lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, Orchestration by Alex Lacamoire), and Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical (Sam Tutty). In addition to the Olivier, Sam Tutty was the recipient the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer, the Whastonstage Award for Best Actor in a Musical, and the Stage Debut awards for Best Performer in a Musical and Best West End Debut, among other accolades.
