Cheryl to star in ‘2:22 – A Ghost Story’ upon its next year’s transfer

The acclaimed singer will make her West End debut next month, playing the lead role as part of the production’s new cast. First performed at London’s Nöel Coward Theatre, the show currently plays at the Criterion Theatre until the beginning of January, before moving to the Lyric Theatre.

There are curses you just can’t say no to – especially when that means keep haunting the West End scene! Now in the last weeks until finishing its run at Picadilly’s Criterion Theatre, London’s most striking new horror play is far from heading to the afterlife, as the mystery will continue from January on at a different venue just around the corner. Every moving needs a tenant, and for this occasion, today producers have announced who’s next in line to be tormented by the supernatural. Making her theatrical debut, acclaimed singer Cheryl will step in playing the lead role of Jenna, accompanied by Hugo Chegwin as Ben, Scott Karim as Sam and Louise Ford as Lauren.

“I am really excited to be taking part in what is such a new challenge for me”, says Cheryl. “I have always loved and been a big fan of theatre so I’m especially excited to be playing the role of Jenny in this production of 2:22. It is a brilliant role and subject matter with a very interesting plot! Danny Robins is such an intriguing character which is evident throughout this play and his style of writing has an odd sense of familiarity to me, being a fellow Geordie! I look forward to working with Matthew and the other cast members and can’t wait to get going”.

Written by award-winning writer Danny Robins (creator of the hit BBC podcast The Battersea Poltergeist) and directed by Matthew Dunster, the show tells the unnerving story of a couple moving to their new house, only to find out that some strange forces are inhabiting it – manifesting at a very precise moment: when the clock hits 2:22 . First performed in 2021 at the Noel Coward Theatre (starring Lily Allen, Julia Chan, Hadley Fraser and Jake Wood) the production later transferred to the Gielgud Theatre for 10 weeks, followed by Criterion Theatre. At this last place, the first cast featured Tom Felton, Mandip Gill, Beatriz Romilly, Sam Swainsbury, while the current one includes Tamzin Carroll as Lauren, Felix Scott as Sam, Matt Willis as Ben and Laura Whitmore as Jenny. The piece recently had a limited US run too, premiering at LA’s Ahmanson Theatre from 29 October to 4 December 2022.
